How Often Do I Need to Bathe My Dog?
Something many pet parents struggle with is how often to bathe their dog. Being who they are, dogs are known to get themselves dirty almost daily, if not more often. While we love them to the mud puddle and back, finding a balance between a constantly dirty dog and an unhappy, bored dog can be a challenge.
One indicator of when it’s time to bathe your dog is a nagging smell or itch. We carry a wide assortment of shampoos and conditioner for different skin types in all breeds. Don’t start a bathing schedule that’s too aggressive; many veterinarians suggest an average of once a month, as dogs need a bit of natural oil to protect their coat and skin (just like humans).
Of course, we’ve all had months that require a little extra primping. In between baths, we suggest a waterless shampoo that can be applied anytime, without you needing to wrestle a wet dog into a tub with a water hose. This type of grooming product works great on days you visit the dog park or get caught in the rain during a potty trip. Think of it as doggy dry shampoo!
When the time comes for a full bath, you can always visit a self-serve dog wash at any Chow Hound in Michigan. We provide the shampoo, blow dryers, warm water, and raised tubs, but it is B.Y.O.D.: Bring Your Own Dog. Having you hold their paw while getting fresh and clean in their favorite store? Sounds like a win-win if you ask us.
