DISASTERS IMPACT PETS AND THEIR WELL-BEING:

GRAND RAPIDS, MI: August 8, 2016 – About every eight minutes the American Red Cross responds to a disaster, the majority of these disasters are home fires. Employees of the Red Cross are prepared to respond to these fires day and night to provide comfort and resources for the families, whom suffer loss, and are unable to recover on their own.

In an effort to ease the burdens of our clients, the Red Cross provides comfort kits containing personal care items including toothbrushes, shampoo, washcloths, shaving materials and soap. For children, these kits also include stuffed animals and coloring materials. Now, through the support of Chow Hound Pet Supplies of West Michigan, adequate pet care during a time of disaster also is being addressed.

Chow Hound Pet Supplies of West Michigan made an in kind donation of 100 pet-focused comfort kits for the families affected by home fires. There are kits for both dogs and cats. The kits include items such as food, bowls, leashes, chew toys and treats.

For more than two decades, Chow Hound Pet Supplies has remained a family owned and operated business, currently with nine locations. The Red Cross is excited by this partnership with Chow Hound Pet Supplies and the mutual desire to ensure all family members are taken care of after a disaster.
