History of Chow Hound

Greg and Tyson Keane grew up in Grand Rapids. In 1987 they had vision to open a store that not only sold the best in pet products and supplies, but also provide pet owners with good advice and guidance. Being pet lovers themselves, the brothers wanted Chow Hound to appeal to people who regarded their pets as “part of the family.” Two years later in 1989, this dream became a reality with the opening of the first Chow Hound Pet Supply Warehouse on Jupiter Ave. This first store was joined a year later by a location on the East Beltline. The Holland store proceeded in 1992 and was followed by the Eastern and 28th St. store in 1994. In 1995, the brothers moved the Beltline store to it's current home on Cascade Road. Since then they opened their Northland Drive and Breton Village stores and moved out of the original Jupiter Ave store. After more than 20 years, the Keane Family is proud that Chow Hound is locally owned and operated in West Michigan.

They are passionate about their work because just like you, they are pet lovers. Our motto is “Sharing in the care of your pet” and we try to do that everyday at Chow Hound.

Chow Hound is committed to helping you find the best food for your pet. This way, we can stand behind every product that we sell.

Besides the food lines that we carry, Chow Hound tries to provide a wide range of products for all pets. Unfortunately, we can't carry every thing in the ever expanding pet industry, but we can special order almost any product for you. We have suppliers with over 15,000 items on hand. It's our way of ensuring your happiness and the happiness of your pet.

Community Involvement

At Chow Hound, we know how important it is for a successful business to give back to the community. Chow Hound supports many charity activities including:

• Humane Society of Kent County fund raising dog walks.
• Kent and Ottawa County Humane Societies Christmas Fundraiser.
• Paws With A Cause fund raisers to help train service dogs for handicapped people.
• Our full time in store cat and kitten adoptions at all 6 locations have helped hundreds of cats find loving homes.
• In store pet adoptions with West Michigan Animal Resources to bring families and homeless pets together.
• Little League and high school team sponsorships.

Chow Hound has been there for these groups in the past and we will continue to lead West Michigan by supporting these and other worthy causes in the future.
